Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) in waves

General features:

  • Free motions in regular head waves at model scale
  • Wave height = 7.4 m, wave length = 168 m
  • Ship speed = 39.7 kn
  • Grid resolution: 334,000 CVs for one vessel side
  • CPU time: 28 hrs for 15 encounter periods on 1 intel P IV 1800 MHz (half model)
  • Results of simulation:
    • Pitch and heave motions
    • Slamming pressures and integral forces and moments
    • Wett deck slamming
  • Main dimensions of wave-piercer catamaran LCS:
    • Lwl = 120 m
    • D = 3.3 m
    • Displ. = 4,000 t
    • Max speed = 50 kn
